I'm a wife of 9 years, a mom of a 4 year old & 2 year old, and a lover of all things spreadsheets and Real Housewives. Half way between Leslie Knope and Kelly Kapoor.
I heard somewhere that to try and find what you're passionate about, you should think back to how you would play as a child. Think about what you loved to spend time doing and what you wanted so badly for Christmas before you thought about a job or career.
Well, believe it or not... as a kid I wanted font packs on CD-ROM and a real working cash register. Literally. Not joking. I wanted the font packs so I could make theme-appropriate signage for my made-up businesses. I needed a REAL cash register so it could hold real money and have buttons that automatically did the sales tax and would print the correct department on the receipt.
My favorite "game" was selling things to my sister or setting up a store for my grandparents to come shop at.
I was ecstatic that one of my font pack CDs had a font that looked like the letters were snow-capped for my pretend Powerade flavored shaved ice business. It was going to be a real business, but I realized my margins would be too slim to be able to pay myself and my cousins a proper wage. Genuinely. Those were the things my kid brain thought were fun to imagine and play.
And nothing has changed.
I went a different path for a while (lots of paths actually. I've had like a million random jobs). But, at every job I had, I was constantly volunteering to design brochures or social posts or flyers or signs. It was never ever part of my job description, but always something I ended up doing by sheer force of will.
I even did vlogging for a while. I LOVED the editing and the creative process of it all. That, however, took a sharp halt ironically when some of my videos were getting tens of thousands of views. That's a story for another day.
So that leads us here. To me. A kid with dreams of designing and business, but a life that has taken some unexpected turns. A wife, mom, a daily fighter of anxiety and wildly negative self-talk, a person. A whole person. At least that's what I'm trying to re-find myself to be. A whole person doing something I love. And that something... well that's Love Truth & Glory Designs. 💖💙
